Abstract

Advances in technology enhancing smartphones capabilities to become like computers in general. Many smartphones now can serve as a computer. One of the smartphone excellence is its mobility. However, smartphones have a very limited data storage compared to computer. This research aims to build an integrated system between smartphone and computer that can meet mobility and large data storage needs. Android Smartphone version 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) is used as a tool for exploring computer data. Communication between smartphone and computer is bridged by a web server and carried over the Internet with Extensible Markup Language Remote Procdeure Call (XML-RPC). On the system, security mechanism using Rivest Code 5 (RC-5) algorithm for data encryption is implemented. The results showed that the system has answered the needs for mobility and large data storage. Application on the smartphone can explore the directory on the computer properly. The security mechanism also fulfilling the needs for data integrity and confidentiality of transmitted and received data in the system.
