It is a matter of fact that today there is almost no independent journalism all over Indonesia. As a consequence journalists dependently rely onpolitical conditions led by those who have economic sources to pay for news andadvertisements. It is not wrong at all when the Press Publishers announced intheir statement that only 30 % of press release remains independent from politicalpower and money. Tis is the real condition challenging mass media to attain respectfrom the readers. Te question is therefore who is responsible when news becomes acommodity of exchange? Tat is why the general election becomes a litmus test forindependent news to exist.
