Abstract
Jakarta's the top 10 cities with the worst pollution in August 2023, the correlation between climate change and transportation sector gains prominence. This sector significantly contributes to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, primarily due to fuel consumption by motorized vehicles, constituting approximately 62% of fuel oil usage. Indonesia's commitment to curbing GHG emissions, responsible for 5.1% of the nation's total, necessitates comprehensive measures. The Climate Action Tracker underscores the urgency for Indonesia, targeting a 1.5°C global temperature rise as per the Paris Agreement, to limit transportation-related emissions to 2 MtCO2eq by 2050. As for concrete steps that have been taken by building public transportation on a massive scale, it is hoped that some private vehicle users will switch to using public transportation. In addition, fuel subsidies were also reduced along with other efforts in the form of fuel diversification (such as the use of better materials like biodiesel, bio-ethanol, etc.). The government has also provided incentives for electric energy-based vehicles. The expansion of public transportation aims to encourage private vehicle users' migration to sustainable alternatives. Focusing on millennials & generation Z, set to influence the next 30 years as a productive generation, this study employs purposive sampling to gauge their perceptions of public policy in transportation sector transformation. Understanding the preferences of this demographic holds substantial for shaping sustainable transportation policies that mitigate future GHG effects.
