Abstract

“Wa Teng“ short film explores the dynamic between a deceased Chinese father and his son using Qing Ming festival as the base of its story. Qing Ming is an annual festival celebrated by Chinese people to fulfill their filial duty to their departed family members, often their elders, so they can live a good life in the afterlife. The story takes place in two different worlds, the afterlife and the human world. With the need to depict the image of afterlife, the writer tried to design a new world using Subcreation theory. The topic was chosen because no one can really tell for sure about the visual of afterlife, making it interesting to explore. The writer will try to construct a secondary world in a form of afterlife based on the life after death concept believed by Chinese people. The study was conducted using descriptive narrative method. The datas are collected using observatory method and literary research, using art and design, film, Chinese culture and anthropology books as references.
