Abstract

Procter & Gamble CEO Jon Moeller reflected on the challenges facing one the world’s leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies in early 2022. Moeller, who had previously served as P&G’s COO and CFO, assumed the CEO duties in November 2021. Moeller, like his immediate predecessors, had spent decades with the company, including substantial time in Asia. Moeller knew that China represented some of the biggest opportunities and challenges for P&G. P&G had been a pioneer in the FMCG industries in China. It had introduced product categories to China, had helped create suppliers and distribution networks, had brought modern advertising techniques to China, and had created an R&D infrastructure in the country. P&G China had also been known for its attractiveness as an employer, its position as a concerned corporate citizen, and as a strong supporter of events like the 2008 and 2022 Olympic Games and 2010 World Expo held in China.
