Abstract

Patriarchal culture still affects the common views of society towards construction of gender. The construction of gender formed a masculine impression of male figure and a feminine impression of female figure. Common views of the society also have an impact on the gender division of space. Domestic space is identic with feminine role. Thus, there are certainly differences occur when the dominance of the masculine figure rules in the domestic space. In connection with the short film of "Semasa", domestic space is dominated by masculine figure. The representations of masculine and feminine impressions necessarily have different colours and shapes. As a production designer, the author will illustrate the dominance of masculine figure through the selection of colours and shapes representing masculine impression on the set and properties.
